Have Kaizer Chiefs found solution where ‘they have been suffering!’ – Will he give the shirt back?

Former Orlando Pirates attacker Phumudzo Manenzhe believes Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner has already made a case after his display for the club against Golden Arrows.

The ex-Sekhukhune United custodian got his chance to represent Amakhosi following the injury to Brandon Petersen. The Glamour Boys’ skipper injured his knee recently and will be out of action for six weeks which paved the way for Leaner to underline his worth.

The 28-year-old delivered effectively and kept a clean sheet in the goalless draw. Manenzhe believes Leaner will not easily let the opportunity slip, and Petersen has a huge battle to keep his position.

Leaner lauded after helping Amakhosi get a point

“For me, Leaner has to get the credit for everything that happened. That’s what you need [from a goalkeeper]; that’s why you’ve got the advantage of using your hands,” Manenzhe told Extra Time.

“Everyone, Deon and Co., were attacking the ball, but he (Leaner) says, ‘I’ll be brave enough; I’ll put my body on the line to get the ball,’ and he really makes a great save.

“That’s a position where Kaizer Chiefs have been suffering this season. Yes, Petersen was great last season, but at the start of this season there were characteristics or mistakes that he was making.

“Leaner gets an opportunity through an injury. Will he give the shirt back? I don’t think he will make it easy,” he added.

The Soweto giants are fourth on the table with 13 points, having secured three wins and four draws. Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu are the teams above Amakhosi.
