Kaizer Chiefs have been working hard to streamline their squad to make it competitive ahead of the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League.
They have so far parted ways with Njabulo Blom (who was serving the club on loan from Major Soccer League side St. Louis City SC), Sabelo Radebe, Ranga Chivaviro, Edmilson Dove and Mduduzi Mdantsane.
Venezuelan midfielder Edson Castillo has also left the club, although the Glamour Boys haven't officially communicated the same. The 31-year-old has had a mixed career at Amakhosi since joining them in the 2023/24 season.
He started life in Mzansi well, playing 32 games in his debut campaign with Chiefs. He found the back of the net five times with two assists to his name. However, last season, he made just nine appearances across all competitions and provided an assist.
Why did Castillo leave Chiefs?

According to a representative of Andrade Sports Group who manages the 31-year-old, was seen as surplus to requirements by coach Nasreddine Nabi.
“We are very grateful to Kaizer Chiefs for the opportunity and the time Edson spent with the club. The experience in South Africa, both on and off the pitch, was very positive and helped him grow as a player and as a person,” he told iDiski Times.
“However, as you know, the current situation with the new coach made it difficult for us to continue being part of the project. Now, we believe it’s the right moment to look for a new challenge in Edson’s career.
“We are open to staying in the African market, as we truly believe the experience with Kaizer Chiefs and in South Africa was enriching and highly valuable,” he concluded.
