South Africa and Kaizer Chiefs defender Rushwin Dortley is close to Amakhosi return after more than a year out!

The left-footed versatile defender established himself at the club, before an unfortunate injury early last year saw him undergo surgery that has kept him out of action for 13 months. Prior to his injury, the former Cape Town Spurs player has won Hugo Broos’ trust for the national team.

It was a massive blow for the 23-year-old who had hoped to be part of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), played in Morocco, as well as the 2026 FIFA World Cup that will be jointly held by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has now shared latest on the defender who has been working on his fitness.

Dortley close to Kaizer Chiefs’ return

“That is the question that will be directed to the medical team, but last week he started to be with us, to touch the ball,” he opened up to the media in his most recent interview.

“I’m pretty sure he is not far from returning,” the Burundian added.

Meanwhile, Kaze has explained the return of Reeve Frosler from injury and and how he plans to use the fullback.

“He was out injured for a long time. A player like that, you want to introduce him step by step and not to go in with the excitement or hype or giving him too much workload, and there is a risk of injury,” he continued.

“He’s a player who is coming along very well, and he’s a player who can help and has a lot of experience. He has an attacking flair, and his tackling is good. He’s intelligent when he gets into positions where he can make good crosses, and I am pretty sure that from now until the end of the season, he will help a lot,” Kaze concluded.
