Kaizer Chiefs urged to consider two coaches who can ‘achieve great things’ at Naturena

Kaizer Chiefs are expected to have a new coach for the 2026/27 Premier Soccer League campaign after the struggles by the current technical team led by Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef.

Despite bringing in arguable quality players in the offseason transfer window, the duo, who took over from Nasreddine Nabi, have failed to help Amakhosi stage meaningful competition in the tournaments they have played in, in the ongoing campaign.

The Glamour Boys failed in the Carling Knockout, followed by the Nedbank Cup and later the CAF Champions League. Currently, they are trailing both Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns by 14 points, although they have played a game less.

Two coaches proposed to Chiefs

There have been a host of coaches, domestically and abroad, that have been linked to Chiefs. However, former Bafana Bafana defender Tsepo Masilela has named two who can deliver for the club.

“I think at Chiefs, they do have good players. However, I’m not sure if they have quality players to challenge Sundowns and Pirates that we are watching today,” he said during his interview with the SoccerBeat Podcast.

“They do have good players. I think if they hire either of the two coaches, Rulani Mokwena or Benni McCarthy, you would see their style of play or philosophy reflected in this current team. The players that are there can achieve great things,” he concluded.

Another name on the table!

Kaizer Chiefs legend Brian Baloyi had a different idea as opposed to Masilela, “There’s a lot of them, yes Benni [McCarthy] would be a right fit, definitely Pitso would also be, but I’d take Pitso over Benni,” he told Metro FM.

“If you look at the team and the players we have, you need a mentor. You need someone who knows how to rebuild, to build everything from scratch. Benni, as much as he’s a good coach, I think he’s still inexperienced, still needs to get more experience to get to that level.

“There’s more – Fadlu Davids, there’s Rulani [Mokwena] and there’s Manqoba [Mngqithi]. There’s a lot of coaches that can do a good job at Chiefs that are South African before we even go out, looking for European coaches,” he concluded.
