Kaizer Chiefs youngster advised on how to be effective since ‘he’s not good at taking somebody on’

Kaizer Chiefs youngster Mfundo Vilakazi was on target last weekend as the Soweto giants beat Magesi 2-0 in the Premier Soccer League outing.

The 20-year-old Amajita attacker came off the bench to inspire Amakhosi to victory. It was his second strike in the ongoing campaign for Chiefs in the 13 PSL outings despite the struggles of getting enough minutes. Vilakazi has also managed to provide an assist.

Vilakazi has been tipped to be one of the club’s great players in the future, if he continues his exploits consistently.

However, at times, the young attacker – who is usually played on the wings but can play centrally as well, has struggled to beat his marker. Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye is happy with the youngster’s exploits, but he has capitalised on the opportunity to advise him on how to improve especially in final third.

“Also Mfundi Vilakazi, this is what the boy needs to do for himself because he’s not good at taking somebody on, receive the ball laying,” Khanye told iDiski TV.

“It can be dangerous. There was a ball he misjudge, it was a cross he miskicked it and it hit him. Defenders were just looking on, and he had the arrogance to finish with his weaker foot. He can’t take on players, but he has the basics and the skill to delay. And when a team is leading you can do those things, just be careful if it’s a 1-0 lead.

“What he’s doing right, now, it’s receiving the ball laying and whoever is telling him to do that at Kaizer Chiefs he must continue. He needs to be supported.

“Every time he gets the ball make the opposition think he’s going to take someone on, they will back paddle. He created a chance just like that last week and [Glody] Lilepo finished. He did the same [on Saturday] but [Gaston] Sirino the confidence was not there,” he concluded.
