Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the departure of playmaker Gaston Sirino who leaves as a free agent following the end of his deal.

Sirino is headed to Durban City after failing to be given a new deal by the Glamour Boys after two years at Naturena.

Chiefs confirmed the departure of the Uruguayan on Monday, ending speculation that he was set to leave and be reunited with ex-coach Khalil Ben Youssef in Durban.

“Amakhosi bid farewell to Sirino. As Kaizer Chiefs bid farewell to Gaston Sirino, the club would like to express sincere gratitude to Papi for his dedication and contribution over the past two seasons,” Chiefs said through a club statement.

“The experienced Uruguayan midfielder played a key role in helping Amakhosi achieve success since he arrived at the club. We thank Gaston for his commitment and passion, as well as all the memories he leaves behind at Naturena.”

Playmaker failed to shine at Naturena

Sirino joined Chiefs after seven years at Sundowns where he had been a key player, enjoying great success, and it was hoped that he would light it up at Naturena.

However, he became a peripheral figure, managing just five goals and eight assists in 52 games across all competitions for Amakhosi, with many of them as a substitute.

The Uruguayan midfielder is believed to have favoured a stay at Chiefs but when a new offer was not presented, he had to look for a new home, having been training alone since his contract with the Soweto giants came to an end.
