Kaizer Chiefs vs Chippa United: Preview, team news, time & where to watch

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs are pushing to end their decade-long trophy drought in the ongoing 2024/25 season.

On Saturday, the Glamour Boys host Chippa United in the Nedbank Cup Round of 16 game to be played at the FNB Stadium.

It will be a massive game for either team since the winner will seal progress to the quarter-final.

Recent Form and Head-to-Head Record

Kaizer Chiefs have not been that impressive in the Premier Soccer League where they have managed seven wins, four draws, and six losses which puts them sixth on the table with 25 points.

Amakhosi beat third-tier side Free Agents 4-0 in the previous round to advance to the Round of 16.

Just like the Glamour Boys, Chippa United have been lukewarm in the league. They are 11th in the log with 18 points from five wins, three draws and seven losses.

In the previous Nedbank Cup hurdle, the Chilli Boys beat Golden Arrows 2-1 to advance.

In the head-to-head record, both Chiefs and Chippa have won two games from the most recent five meetings, wth the remaining one ending in a draw.

What They Said

Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi is anticipating a tough game, “We want to go as far as we can, even until the end, it’s the league cup, it’s always a difficult game, you can’t rely on the last result we got against Chippa,” he stated.

“It was a difficult game unlocked by the mastermind of Shabalala. We expect a very difficult game, we’re prepared for it, doing our due diligence, we have worked through everything, tactically and technically in planning for this game. We hope that our performance will be good against a very good Chippa United team.”

Chippa United Thabo September is convinced his team can knock out their hosts from the competition.

“It's a cup game and it's a once-off match, so you need to approach it with the right mentality to make sure that you play well. Give your all in that 90 minutes and make sure we capitalise on the opportunities that we create,” he stated.

“We also have to be stubborn and selfish in terms of conceding goals, so we have a good plan on what we need to do. Playing against a big team like Chiefs is a great opportunity for these players to showcase their talent.”

Team News and Starting XI
