Kaizer Chiefs vs Polokwane City: Preview, team news & where to watch

Published on by

Kaizer Chiefs are set to host Polokwane City in their final game of the 2024/25 Premier Soccer League campaign, to be staged at the FNB Stadium, on Saturday.

The Glamour Boys will finish in the top half of the league table with maximum points against Rise & Shine, who need at least a point to guarantee themselves an MTN8 ticket for the 2025/26 season.

Having won the Nedbank Cup two weeks ago to end their decade-long trophy drought, a win will be the best way to ensure they play in the MTN8 after finishing 10th last season.

Recent Form & Head-to-Head Record

Amakhosi have not had it easy in the league, having gone eight games without a win. It explains why they are placed eighth on the table with 31 points from the 27 games they have played.

Their last outing against Sekhukhune United ended 1-1.

Polokwane are winless in the last five Premier Soccer League outings, with their last fixture ending in a 2-0 loss against Cape Town City. They are currently seventh on the table with 33 points.

In the head-to-head record, both teams have won twice in the last five games, with one ending in a draw. Polokwane City won the last meeting 2-0.

What They Said

“If you look at the table you will see that the situation is only going to be resolved in the last game of the season. But we’re going to do everything, we are confident, and we are playing at home for the last game, and we are going to have our supporters; everyone knows how important it is.

“I want to ask all the fans to come in the FNB Stadium next game, we need them, we need their support because the game is very, very [tough]. We need the three points. We need our fans to come in numbers and together we will do it.” – Coach Nasreddine Nabi, Kaizer Chiefs coach.

“I’ve said this before, this is one of the biggest clubs in Africa, and when you come here, you come to win titles; there is no time to build or find yourself in the position that we find ourselves in.

“I think at some point we failed the club because we failed to deliver. But that’s why we’re given chances to fight every day. We can’t dwell on the past. We have to look forward and see what’s ahead of us. Yes, we could have had a better season; that is the sentiment among the group. Now we just want to focus on what we want to do at the moment, and that’s qualifying for the top eight – Defender Edmilson Dove, Kaizer Chiefs.
