Kaizer Chiefs are set to end their 25-day competitive game drought with a game against Richards Bay at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday.
This will be a vital fixture for either team owing to their initial struggles in the Premier Soccer League.
While the Glamour Boys are aiming at reducing the gap between them and the top teams, the Natal Rich Boys are targeting a place in the upper half of the table.
Form Guide and head-to-head record
Kaizer Chiefs started the season well, winning their first two league games, but since then, they have collected just a point in their last three. Amakhosi have two losses and a draw from the last three fixtures, making Wednesday's game a must-win.
It is even worse for the Natal Rich Boys; they have collected just one win and two draws from the seven matches they have played. Just like the Glamour Boys, they have collected a point from their last three outings.
In the head-to-head record, Chiefs have won three out of the last five meetings across all competitions. In the 2023/24 campaign, either side won their respective home game.
What they said
“We will give everything for a positive result but you know if you are in a process, the result is like that, zigzag and it is normal because you change some things and give more time to the younger players,” Coach Nasreddine Nabi told the media ahead of the match.
“If you want to correctly develop younger players, you need to accept that sometimes you will lose. It is normal for young players and like that you can come with a new philosophy and it is not easy mentally.”
Kaizer Chiefs and Richards Bay: Team News & Starting XI
Amakhosi come into the match without the suspended Inacio Miguel and the injured Edson Castillo, Bongani Sam, Edmilson Dove, and most recently Nkosingiphile Ngcobo. Goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari might not be fit for the game after sustaining an injury during the international break.
However, the Natal Rich Boys have most of their players available for the game and will be aiming at causing an upset. The only player who is out is Tlakusani Mthethwa after his suspension in the Carling Knockout game against eventual champions Magesi in the semi-final.
