Khanyisa Mayo maintains scoring run for Algerian club

Bafana Bafana forward Khanyisa Mayo scored his fifth goal for CR Belouizdad as they secured a 3-0 victory over UHM Khenchela in the Algerian top flight on Wednesday.

Mayo opened the scoring in the 28th minute in some style. A great passing move for Sead Ramovic’s side saw Mayo receive the ball on the edge of the box before firing home an unstoppable shot on his left foot beyond the goalkeeper.

Rezki Hamroune and Bilal Beukerchaoui’s 51st and 87th minute strikes completed the win which was former TS Galaxy coach Ramovic’s first league match in charge of the club following his abrupt departure from Tanzanian champions Yanga last week.

With everyone starting on a clean slate under the new coach, Mayo seems to be doing just enough to prove to the tactician that he is capable of playing a leading role in their season.

How many goals has Mayo scored?

Mayo has now netted five goals in 20 matches across all competitions for Belouizdad, four in the league, since joining the club from PSL side Cape Town City last season.

The forward’s good form has also seen him become a key member of the squad as he has now started five of his team’s last eight league matches.

Following the win, Belouizdad moved to the top of the Algerian top flight table with 29 points from 16 matches but it is just one better than second-placed MC Alger, who have played a game less.

USM Alger and JS Kabylie are both on 25 from 15 games and can move within a point of Belouizdad if they win their match in hand, showing how Mayo and his team-mates have a lot to do if they want to be crowned champions.
