Khanyisa Mayo’s agent Basia Michaels has made it clear that she does not want the on-loan Kaizer Chiefs striker to return to Algeria.
Mayo is on loan at Chiefs on a season-long deal from Algerian side CR Belouizdad, who he ditched after just one season, having snubbed offers from South Africa to join them from Cape Town City in August 2024.
The striker had a decent debut season in Algeria but heading into the 2025-26 campaign, he fell out of favour and was frozen out of the squad by coach Sead Ramovic, for reasons that are yet to be revealed.

Khanyisa Mayo’s mixed fortunes at Kaizer Chiefs
Left with limited options, Chiefs, who were among clubs that he had rejected a year earlier, moved with speed and snapped him up on a loan and they have an option to sign him permanently.
The striker has had mixed fortunes at Naturena with just one goal to his name in 11 games, having scored on his debut, while injuries have also disrupted him.
Looking at the player’s future, Michaels maintains that she will look at the best interests of Mayo but returning to Algeria is not an option following his ill treatment in North Africa.

“It’s a loan deal now, so that’s yet to be determined,” Michaels said on Behind the Boot podcast.
Agent makes firm stance on Algeria return
“Let’s see what happens, there is still a good four months left before the end of the season. I think based on the difficulties that we faced [in Algeria], I don’t necessarily think it will be healthy for him to go back.

“The (previous) coach had signed Khanyisa when we went and did the medicals, pre-season camp and everything else. He was very thankful for getting the deal done. Then there is a change in regime [Ramovic’s arrival].
“It was quite surprising to me personally because Sead was also a coach I know liked Khanyisa, when he was at TS Galaxy, and Khanyisa was playing for Cape Town City. There was no fallout. It was a difficult couple of weeks leading up to the Chiefs loan. Algeria was tough.”
