Algerian club CR Belouizdad have been sanctioned reportedly due to the transfer of Kaizer Chiefs striker Khanyisa Mayo.
Mayo left Belouizdad in September 2025 for Kaizer Chiefs, one year after joining the club, following a big-money transfer.
Belouizdad won the race for Mayo’s signature in August 2024, having beaten Chiefs, who according to the player’s agent, came with their bid late when the Algerian side had already sealed a deal.

According to Soccer Laduma, the Algerian outfit shelled out $800 000 (R13 million) to land Mayo from Cape Town City, leaving Chiefs red faced, although the Glamour Boys later signed the player on loan one year later.
Belouizdad yet to fully pay up for Mayo
However, Belouizdad are reported not to have paid the entire transfer fees to Cape Town City, which has seen them handed a transfer ban.
On Thursday, FIFA released a list of 20 African clubs, which includes South African sides TS Galaxy and Free State Stars, who have been handed transfer bans over outstanding payments to former players, staff, or other clubs.

Belouizdad are reported not to have settled their dues with the now Motsepe Championship side, leading to the ban, over three months after Cape Town City chairman John Comitis admitted that his club was still owed money by the Algerian giants.
Cape Town hopeful over outstanding dues
“We have to accept that we are satisfied, and we are happy for him, and as a club, we were very happy with the deal,” Comitis told FARPost when Mayo joined Chiefs in September.

“We are still obviously waiting for them to pay the balance of the transfer fee, but I am led to believe that he is on loan to Kaizer Chiefs. So, in that case, he will return there at the end of the season unless they pay up what their transfer fee will be.”
Mayo made 41 appearances for Belouizdad in 2024-25, scoring six goals and adding one assist, but found himself frozen out of the squad by coach Sead Ramovic when the 2025-26 season started before he opted to return home and join Chiefs on a season-long loan.
The striker has so far played six games for the Soweto giants, scoring one goal, which he netted on his debut for the club.
