Itumeleng Khune explains his current relationship with Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs legend Itumeleng Khune is still open to a role at the club after his contract was not renewed at the end of last season, ending his 25-year stay.

Khune was not in the plans of coach Nasreddine Nabi with the club adding Rwandan Fiacre Ntwari to the roster to compete with Brandon Petersen, Bruce Bvuma and Bontle Molefe and he recently revealed how the decision to cut ties with him left him emotional.

Despite that, the goalkeeper harbours no hard feelings with the club and is open to a role even though he has also insisted that he is ready to continue playing if an opportunity arises at another club.

“No, I wasn’t [upset], I knew the club told me the direction they were taking, I need to buy into that, I needed to support the idea the club was moving in that direction,” Khune said as per iDiski Times.

“Nothing personal but I’m part and parcel, I’m still family to Kaizer Chiefs. Unfortunately, that’s how it works, if I had to sign as a footballer for another team, I can’t be with Kaizer Chiefs.

“But for now, I haven’t cut ties with them, they haven’t cut ties with me, we are still in talks, that’s where we are sitting right now.

“We’re trying to find a good working relationship in a different position, going forward.”

There have been reports that Chiefs made Khune a club ambassador while handing him a role in the marketing department but it appears all these have not been firmed up yet.

The player appears to be preparing for life after Chiefs after he was unveiled as a partner for Top Bet, which is likely to make his desire to continue playing difficult in South Africa
