Leaner’s rallying call to Kaizer Chiefs fans ahead of vital CAF CC date with Red Arrows

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner has urged the supporters to turn out in large numbers on Friday in the continental outing.

The first leg of the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup against Red Arrows in Ndola, Zambia ended in a 1-0 defeat. The aggregate winner will advance to the group stage of the competition meaning Chiefs will have to up their game if they are to stand a chance of making the next hurdle.

Amakhosi opted to take the game to Durban where it will be played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. Leaner insists the Glamour Boys are a big team and should be in the group stage of the annual competition.

“This game is very important for the Club. Our goal is to advance to the group stage. We are a big team and we are in a big competition,” Leaner told the club’s media team.

We need our fans out in number to support us because in Zambia their fans made it a bit of an ‘intimidating’ environment, so we need our brilliant fans to reciprocate for the whole 90 minutes because it won’t be easy and our fans are our 12th man who help us a lot to get over the line on the field.

“It’s obvious, but our first task is to get one goal and then go for another one, as well as focus on keeping a clean sheet.

“We have analysed where we went wrong in Zambia and had a look at how they played and where we might capitalise on some of their weaknesses, so we believe we can succeed on Friday,” he concluded.
