Lebohang Maboe: Latest on injured Kaizer Chiefs star

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lebohang Maboe is Amakhosi’s latest injury concern after a recent Premier Soccer League outing.

The 32-year-old, who missed a penalty, was subbed early in the goalless draw with Golden Arrows on Sunday. His place was taken by Adolf Bitegeko, who struggled to impress for the Glamour Boys.

Despite his situation, Maboe was among the players who reported for the Bafana Bafana duties on Monday. Coach Pitso Mosimane has since shared the latest on the versatile midfielder.

What is ailing Maboe?

“He’s got a niggling ankle; you could see the injury. He was never even kicked by anybody. So, it’s tender. The doctor has briefed me that we should be careful with him and give him a chance,” Mosimane told the media.

“We have a three-week camp, right. So, he’s going for a scan, and then the scan will tell us how far he is. And I think he has worked hard to be in Bafana.

“He should be disappointed by the injury, and no one kicked him. Sometimes it’s football, right? So, yeah, let’s hope Lebo recovers and then go for it,” he added.

Bafana Bafana will host Guinea in September in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, before playing Eritrea away four days later.
