Lorch rewarded in Morocco after his display for Mokwena’s Wydad AC

In-form, on loan, Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Thembinkosi Lorch has been rewarded for his recent performances for Wydad Athletic Club coached by South African Rulani Mokwena.

The 31-year-old has underlined his importance for the Red Castle after struggling for game time at Masandawana under Manqoba Mngqithi, initially, and later on, Miguel Cardoso who is still in charge.

Mokwena signed ‘Nyoso' from Orlando Pirates in January 2024, a move that contributed to his reported fallout with Sundowns' Sporting Director Flemming Berg. He then went on for the versatile attacker to help improve his attack.

What has Lorch achieved in Morocco?

Lorch has played eight games so far for Wydad AC, scoring two goals in the process. But it was in March where he gave his best. He shone in the 2-2 draw against FUS Rabat before getting his first goal for the club in a 1-1 draw against Ittihad Tanger.

However, he was not going to find it easy to come up against other nominees Mohamed Rayhi and Mohamed Moufid. The former played three games in that month, claiming two goals in the Excellence Cup while Moufid scored in the Throne Cup as his team made the last 16 of the annual competition.

Nyoso takes over from fellow countryman Cassius Mailula, who was crowned for his performances in the previous month.

With his exploits, Cardoso might consider having the midfielder for the expanded 2025 Fifa Club World Cup in the United States scheduled for June. If that fails, he can as well consider him for the 2026 season.
