Orlando Pirates triumphed over TS Galaxy with a 2-0 victory at the Orlando Stadium, securing valuable Betway Premiership points on Tuesday night.
The win was sealed by goals from Evidence Makgopa and Tshegofatso Mabasa in a contest that saw the welcome return of Relebohile Mofokeng and Mbekezeli Mbokazi to the line-up.
The goal was Mabasa's 50th for Pirates in all competions but his first goal in the PSL this season, netting for the first time since 13th May 2025 against Golden Arrows.
The match ignited with high intensity, but the Sea Robbers were the first to capitalise. The crucial moment arrived in the 17th minute when Masindi Nemtajela was fouled by Mlungisi Mbunjana in the box.
Makgopa calmly stepped up and dispatched the resulting penalty, putting Pirates 1-0 ahead. Galaxy then endured a spell of defensive busyness with the hosts repeatedly seeking to extend their lead.
LIVELY IRA TAPE DENIED PIRATES A COUPLE OF GOALS
The score remained 1-0 only due to the heroics of Galaxy goalkeeper Ira Tape, who kept his side in contention with a key save from Kamogelo Sebelebele in the 24th minute.
Upon resuming play, Pirates exploded onto the field with renewed energy, determined to find the decisive second goal.
The chance to double the lead went begging just two minutes into the second half when Mbekezeli Mbokazi failed to connect on a back-post cross.
The Buccaneers kept pushing, and after a tense spell, substitute Oswin Appollis delivered a superb square pass. Deon Hotto surged onto it and unleashed a fierce strike that was only repelled by the solid save from Tape.
The Rockets were largely ineffective in mounting a counter-offensive, offering little offensive action as the match wore on.
Tshegofatso Mabasa provided the definitive strike, slotting home the team's second goal to secure the 2-0 scoreline and guarantee maximum points for the Buccaneers.
