Lebohang Maboe: Kaizer Chiefs Man of the Match names what he must improve

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lebohang Maboe has identified a key area of his game he is determined to enhance after guiding his team back to victory in the Betway Premiership.

Maboe delivered a Man of the Match performance in Amakhosi’s thrilling 3-2 win against Siwelele FC at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday.

The victory was a crucial response for the Glamour Boys, who had dropped points in their previous outing, and it propelled them to third on the league table.

Maboe’s rise to prominence at Chiefs

Since joining the club in 2025, the 31-year-old has been a vital presence in the midfield first under co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze and now with Fernando da Cruz. This season, he has contributed one goal and two assists in six appearances across all competitions.

Despite his strong start, the experienced playmaker revealed his personal focus is on becoming more decisive in attack.

“We knew that we had to bounce back. We dropped a couple of points in our last game,” Maboe told SuperSport TV as quoted by KickOff. “This is the only way to bring ourselves back, and I’m really, really delighted with my teammates. We really, really fought for this one tonight.”

Amakhosi star on what must improve

Reflecting on his personal development, Maboe added that he is actively working to increase his offensive output.

“Reflecting on the off-season, if there’s one thing that I picked up, it’s that I need to be a lot more involved in the final third,” he explained. “I need to assist more and score goals. So yeah, this is something that I’m really, really working hard on getting perfect in my game.”

Chiefs will aim to continue their winning form when they travel to face Polokwane City in their next league fixture on Saturday, September 12.
