Mamelodi Sundowns are set to test themselves against European firepower as German Bundesliga side RB Leipzig travel to South Africa on May 29, Afrik Foot reports.
The Brazilians will host RB Leipzig at the Lucas Moripe Stadium. Kick-off is slated for 20:00 local time.
Confirmed by both clubs today, the clash forms the centrepiece of Leipzig’s first-ever post-season tour to the African continent, branded “RE KAOFELA” — Sesotho for “All Together”.

The German side will base themselves in Johannesburg from May 26 to 30, marking a historic debut in Africa after previous tours to the USA (2024) and Brazil (2025).

RB Leipzig sees the match as more than just football. In a statement, the club highlighted South Africa as a “particularly exciting football market” and said the tour aims to “build bridges and showcase the Red Bulls’ brand”.

As quoted on Bundesliga official site, club chairman Johann Plenge added:
“After successful tours in the USA & Brazil, we’re looking forward to SA for the first time & meeting Sundowns – a club that has shaped African football for years & enjoys crucial global recognition.”
For Sundowns, the fixture presents a valuable chance to assess their performance against European rivals.
The Betway Premiership champions, who qualified for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, boast a strong domestic and continental record and will welcome Leipzig’s high-pressing style and recent Champions League pedigree.
