Thabo Cele’s move to Mamelodi Sundowns is in jeopardy after a knee issue was picked up during his medical.

Cele was previously expected to undergo knee surgery while at Kaizer Chiefs.

“Thabo Cele’s proposed move to Sundowns has hit a stumbling block after a knee issue emerged during his medical. The transfer has not collapsed, but the move is now hanging in the balance,” the report said.

Despite the setback, the proposed move to Sundowns has not officially collapsed.

The medical concern could still be assessed by the club before a final decision is made. However, according to Hendricks, the transfer is now hanging in the balance.

Cele’s potential move to the reigning South African champions had appeared to be done and dusted. The latest medical development means there is now uncertainty over whether the deal will ultimately be completed.

Matuludi to Sundowns? Cardoso responds

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has refused to confirm reports that Polokwane City defender Thabang Matuludi will be unveiled by the club this week.

Cardoso was asked about the reports and appeared surprised by the suggestion that an announcement could be imminent for the Bafana Bafana defender.

“You know more than me; you are going to make me question things I don’t have answers for. You telling me in the next few days a player will be announced, I can’t answer that,” Cardoso said.

“You are more sure of that than myself, I don’t know who is speaking to you, you must tell me.

“But really I don’t have that information so I can’t speak about something I don’t control.”

‘I can speak about Deano…’

The Portuguese coach stressed that he would only discuss players once they have been officially confirmed by the club, pointing to the recent arrival of Deano van Rooyen as an example.

“I can speak about Deano – he’s arrived, he is here. Any player who is officially announced, we can discuss all the things before; whatever happens, we don’t know,” he added.
