Van Wyk already silencing his doubters

Mamelodi Sundowns forward Antonio van Wyk is doing his talking on the pitch, having started life at the club in brilliant fashion.

The former Stellenbosch star joined Sundowns ahead of this season from Austrian club SV Ried, where he had spent the last two years, scoring four goals and providing seven assists.

Before that, Van Wyk had managed six goals in 78 matches for Stellies since joining the senior team in 2021 but in just two months at Sundowns, he already has five goal involvements.

Van Wyk is quickly silencing his doubters as he has scored four goals and added an assist with his run likely to see him set a new career record for goals.

Sundowns legend praises Mudau’s impact

Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Katlego “Mahoota” Mashego has praised the quality of defender Khuliso Mudau, saying the right-back is so good that the club has four players to replace him after his injury.

Mudau is out for at least six months after suffering an Achilles injury last month and while Sundowns had Zuko Mdunyelwa and Thapelo Morena already as their right-back options, his injury has seen the club sign two more.

The Brazilians have brought in free agent Deano van Rooyen as well as Thabang Matuludi from Polokwane City, making it four right-backs in Mudau’s absence.

Mashego says Mudau, popularly known as ‘Sailor,’ is badly missed going by how Sundowns have reacted to his injury and feels even the other four will struggle to play when he finally returns.

“We should look at the impact that Sailor has made in this team. He gets injured and they sign three players,” Mashego said on SABC’s Soccerzone.
