Polokwane not losing sleep after Matuludi’s move

Polokwane City are seemingly not losing any sleep over defender Thabang Matuludi’s move to Mamelodi Sundowns, with coach Bayano Moloto confident there is an array of emerging talent at the club.

Rise and Shine had already been preparing for life without the Bafana Bafana right-back after sidelining him prior to the transfer, with Surprise Manthosi featuring in that position this season.

Moloto wished Matuludi well but suggested the club had already moved on. 

“Ah, that one is another issue. Also, Chiefs lost Cele to Sundowns, but what I can say to Thabang is all the best, son. I think the young man has done very well, and if you look at Polokwane City, it is a team that produces the unknown. Like I said in my last interview, there is a gem that we are working with. We could see that Manthosi is one for the future, and I think there is another one to see in the future at right back,” said Moloto as quoted by SABC Sport.

The goalkeeping department has further been strengthened following the return of Oscarine Masuluke from Stellenbosch FC. Moloto said he added much-needed experience.

“No, he added value; he helped us a lot in terms of organizing the defense. He is a player who is a leader, so that is something we are also looking at. He is also someone who will push Mathebula, so we want to bring balance in order to have good competition in our team.”

With Mamelodi Sundowns set to go head-to-head with Al-Ahli Saudi FC in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup, they will have the opportunity to achieve something an African side has yet to do.

Allende opens up on playing many matches

Mamelodi Sundowns star Marcelo Allende has revealed how the dressing room has been dealing with the workload of playing so many matches.

Allende revealed that he and his teammates have all welcomed the rotation within the squad, given the heavy fixture schedule.

Sundowns are competing in eight competitions this season: the Betway Premiership, MTN8, Carling Knockout, Nedbank Cup, CAF Champions League, CAF Super Cup, and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.

Allende recently spoke in an interview on Ringas noCherry, a show on Mamelodi Sundowns TV, revealing that everyone was content with the rotation that has been taking place.

“No, I think it’s everything, you know. You need to obviously look at yourself,” he said.

“But of course, we have the technical team. So they manage the load of each player, and the good thing is we are Sundowns.

“We have good players, so we can rotate and keep the same rhythm and the same quality.

“[We don’t complain] We know we are good players, everyone. At Sundowns, the quality is good, so we know that the other one is waiting for the opportunity also.”
