Latest news on Mamelodi Sundowns in the last 24 hours, including chnaces to win CAF Champions League backed, Marcelo Allende on overtaking Orlando Pirates and more.
Sundowns backed to win second star
Mamelodi Sundowns legend Surprise Moriri has backed the current squad to go all the way and lift their second CAF Champions League trophy in the club’s history.
“I think it’s going to be very sweet, I think also if you look at the way, in terms of the group stages, how we qualified for the knockout stages, it was not easy – but after that, the boys fought very hard to make sure we get to where we are now to the final,” Moriri said as quoted by iDiski Times.
“I know that everyone is looking forward to the final, we have been chasing this thing for too long, I think we are very very close to this and it will be very sweet to put the second star on the jersey.
“But I know it won’t be easy, as they say, success is sweeter when achieved under tough times, unlike when it comes on a silver platter. The boys have fought hard, paid their dues, paid their school fees. Where we are now it’s up to us what we do – but I have trust and belief in the boys and the technical team.

“But most importantly also, our supporters, they must make sure to rally behind the team so we can go for the last lap – but I have trust and belief that this time around, we will put the second star on our jersey.”
Allende opens up about topping PSL table
Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Marcelo Allende has spoken about the team’s return to the top of the standings amid stiff competition from Orlando Pirates.
“Pressure? It’s just the job we have to do in any pitch, anywhere we’re always looking for the three points,” he added.
“We’re on top where we need to be, where Sundowns deserve to stay. I’m happy that we got the three points.

“We need to take it one game at a time, the most important one is the next one – the Polokwane game at Loftus.”
Williams opens up on playing from the back and being a sweeper-keeper
Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has lifted the lid on what makes him to be so confident playing out from the back and the ability of being a sweeper-keeper.
“Initially I started as a striker for my local team Shatterprufe Rovers, my uncle was a goalkeeper and my coach, he’s the reason why I fell in love with goalkeeping, that’s when the journey started when I seven, eight years old, playing for my local team,” Williams told Tabu Peter Youtube Channel.
“It’s something I’ve always been blessed with, maybe it comes from the fact that I was an in-field player, so I understand the position. I think for many years I didn’t want to accept that I’m a goalkeeper and I must just stay inside of the goals.

“I always ventured forward, even when my team was losing, I would take the ball and dribble, so I always had that in my mind to be that sweeper-keeper. So from a young age I had that ability and obviously as years went by coaches picked it up and started using it to our advantage, so we can play a higher line because we have a goalkeeper who is a sweeper-keeper, it is just something I’m blessed with,” he added.
