Rayners on how Sundowns can sink Arrows

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Iqraam Rayners has highlighted how his team can sink Golden Arrows in the Carling Knockout quarter-final when they face off on Tuesday.

The two sides renew their acquaintances on Tuesday evening (19:00) when Sundowns host Arrows at Loftus Versfeld with either side looking to seal place in the semi-final.

It will be the fourth meeting between Sundowns and Arrows this season, the Brazilians having won two and lost one of the previous three and Rayners feels it sis possible to get the win if they do certain things right.

“Knockout games are always difficult to play because you don’t know what to expect from the other teams but as a team, we know how to win games like this, especially when it becomes difficult,” said Rayners.

“We always have a lot of opportunities against them but we just have to make sure we punish them as early as possible because once we do that, the game will open up and we know we’ll win.”

Rayners has also lauded Arrows coach Mandla Ncikazi, who he feels will make life difficult for Sundowns.

“I think their coach is a good coach especially when teams play against Sundowns, they know how to set up but we just need to do our job and work as hard as possible to win the game and get the result,” he added.

Williams concerns ahead of Bafana squad naming

Meanwhile, Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams is in a race against time to be fit for Bafana Bafana ahead of their matches against Kenya.

Williams has missed the last two games for Sundowns with Ricardo Goss stepping up as he recovers from an injury.

The goalkeeper made the squad in the preliminary team named by coach Pitso Mosimane last week and with the squad set to be trimmed this week, he might miss out.

That would hand Goss and Orlando Pirates’ Sipho Chaine an opportunity with Arrows goalkeeper Thakasani Mbanjwa likely to roped in if Williams is not fit in time.

Bafana will play Kenya at the Orlando Amstel Arena on November 11 before playing them in Nairobi four days later.
