Cardoso vows to carry Adams’s memory throughout

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has made a solemn commitment to keep the spirit of the late Jayden Adams alive across all of Sundowns’ competitions this season.

Speaking via a pre-recorded message played at the Betway Premiership’s official season launch, the Portuguese coach expressed gratitude to the league for granting the postponement, adding that the team feels an obligation to honour Adams throughout all the tournaments.

“We would like to thank the PSL and Marumo Gallants for allowing us to delay our first match. Unfortunately, the reasons are not the best ones,” Cardoso said, before adding: “We also want everybody to remember the memory of Jayden Adams and how we are mourning him, but at the same time, how we are living from the love that he brought to all of us.”

Sundowns were originally scheduled to host Marumo Gallants in their Betway Premiership opener, but the fixture has been moved to 18 August after their pre-season preparations were disrupted by Adams’s passing.

Van Wyk opens on his Mamelodi Sundowns ambitions

New Masandawana winger Antonio van Wyk has spoken publicly about his expectations after sealing his return to the PSL.

The 24-year-old, who was officially unveiled by Sundowns on 16 June after signing a long-term deal, joined from Austrian club SV Ried. He made 36 appearances during his time in Austria, scoring two goals and registering seven assists.

Van Wyk described himself as an explosive player who is quick, direct and comfortable in one-on-one situations, and outlined his top priorities at Chloorkop as helping the Brazilians win another CAF Champions League title while reclaiming domestic dominance.

“I would say to win another star. I think that would be my main goal, but also to get back on track and win the league again,” he said as quoted by Hollywoodbets.

“I promise to do my best to make the fans, the management, and the team proud through my performances,” added the former Stellenbosch FC.

Mohafe reveals he wanted to start against Sundowns

New Marumo Gallants head coach Phuti Mohafe has admitted that his preference was to open his reign with a clash against Mamelodi Sundowns — a fixture that has since been postponed.

Mohafe said his squad knows exactly how to approach a game against Masandawana and that his players were mentally prepared for the challenge before the match was called off following Adams’s passing.

“Sundowns are a team that my team knows how to play against, and I also think that Sundowns is a team that everyone wants to play against. I personally wanted to start the season against them, and it is so unfortunate that we will instead start the season against Kruger United,” Mohafe said as per SABC.
