Ndlovu reveals attacks

Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Siyanda Ndlovu has revealed that he faced significant attacks on social media after his proposed move to Orlando Pirates was hijacked by Masandawana.

Ndlovu had travelled to Gauteng with the intention of joining the Buccaneers, but after the move fell through, he eventually completed a switch to Sundowns at Chloorkop.

"The way they spoke to me on social media. I was getting messages on my Instagram, insulting me. But then I’m strong and I'm focusing on what I’m doing, where I am. What happened cannot be changed anymore."

The 23-year-old says he received numerous messages from unhappy fans on social media, with some going as far as insulting him over his decision to join the Brazilians.

However, Ndlovu insists that those attacks did not affect him, explaining that he is mentally strong enough to deal with the backlash and that he cannot change what has already happened.

“There’s nothing wrong between me [and Pirates]. But the way they spoke to me on social media. I was getting messages on my Instagram, insulting me,” Ndlovu told Ukhozi FM.

“But then I’m strong and I’m focusing on what I’m doing, where I am. What happened cannot be changed anymore.”

Ndlovu has made an impressive start to life at Sundowns, turning heads with his performances in the six matches he has played across all competitions.

Koketso Mmotong says the sometimes not-so-convincing Mamelodi Sundowns should be expected, since the players are still trying to come to terms with the recent passing of a teammate.

They have since gone on to record four wins and a draw in the league, and have qualified for the final of the MTN8. However, there has been concern about a general failure to keep clean sheets, with the side shutting out the opposition only twice out of their eight games played in all competitions.

Miguel Cardoso’s troops now face Golden Arrows at King Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday.

“Those Arrows boys can run, therefore I am expecting an entertaining game,” says Mmotong, previewing the fixture with KickOff.

“I’m expecting attacking football from both teams. Arrows will surely be looking for revenge. What happened in the two-legged MTN8 semi-final has given Arrows players a lot of confidence ahead of this one.

“Sundowns might not be that well-oiled machine for now in terms of play, and that’s because we are still in our early days of mourning our fallen hero Jayden Adams.

“We now have to give chances to other new players.”
