Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the signing of Austrian side SV Ried’s winger, Antonio Van Wyk.
The 24-year-old is not new to the Premier Soccer League, having represented Stellenbosch before leaving South Africa two seasons ago. Masandawana and The Vikings agreed to do business about two weeks prior before the official announcement.
“Antonio Van Wyk is officially part of the Yellow Family. Let’s welcome him the Masandawana way,” the Brazilians confirmed on Tuesday through their official communication channels.
While with SV Ried, Van Wyk played 53 games and found the back of the net four times, while managing to assist on seven occasions to help his team get promoted to the top-tier. Before leaving for Europe, the Ubuntu Academy product had played for Stellies for three years.
I can’t wait! Van Wyk determined to deliver at Sundowns
In his introduction clip, the attacker expressed his satisfaction after joining the South African heavyweights.
“Spending time away [in Europe] has been an incredible experience that helped me grow as a footballer and as a person. This is one of the biggest clubs on the continent. Club with a rich history, high standards, and a winning culture,” he stated.
“To the supporters, your passion for this club is unmatched and I cannot wait to experience that on match day. I’m excited for this journey. My name is Antonio van Wyk and I’m proud to be Yellow,” Van Wyk concluded.

The new signing is expected to help Masandawana to challenge for the Premier Soccer League crown after losing it to Orlando Pirates. Sundowns had won eight in a row and were expecting to make it nine, but the Soweto giants stopped them, in the process ending their 14-year drought.
More changes in the playing unit are expected with coach Miguel Cardoso also aiming at defending the CAF Champions League.
