Mamelodi Sundowns Transfer News: Have Downs hinted Onyango won’t play next season?

CAF Champions League winners Mamelodi Sundowns are set to challenge Orlando Pirates next season, hoping to reclaim the Premier Soccer League title.

So far, they have made two major signings; bringing in former Stellenbosch winger Antonio van Wyk from Austrian outfit SV Ried, as well as Siytanda Ndlovu whi refused to join the Sea Robbers from Golden Arrows. However, they made a bold decision to let Peter Shalulile leave.

Coach Miguel Cardoso is aware that he can’t afford to go without the league title next season explaining why they need depth, a quality one for that matter to be competitive in MTN8, Nedbank Cup and Carling Knockout as well.

The Brazilians have now seemingly made a decision on veteran custodian Denis Onyango who has been serving the club since 2011 when he joined from Mpumalanga Black Aces.

What decision have Sundowns made?

The Brazilians have seemingly opted against letting Bafana Bafana international Ricardo Goss to continue serving Siwelele FC on loan. The custodian is among the players who have left the team, and is expected to join Masandawana for pre-season.

“A well deserved nomination! Farewell to our last line of defence,” Siwelele posted on their Social Media platform regarding the 32-year-old who has been nominated for the Goalkeeper of the Season Award alongside favourite Sipho Chaine of Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs captain Brandon Petersen.

Nevertheless, Goss – who managed 1 clean sheets in 30 games for Siwelele, will have to prove he deserves a chance in the post ahead of an almost guaranteed starter Ronwen Williams. If he indeed stays, Onyango might be the one dropping down the pecking order.

This will jeorpadise the development of Jody February who has been struggling for game time, the same as Reyaad Pieterse.
