Coach Pablo Franco Martin was the first coach to be shown the door in the Premier Soccer League.
The Spaniard was fired by AmaZulu after a poor start that saw his team lose their initial three South African top-flight matches.
Usuthu were not keen on giving the tactician more time, since they might have felt he was not fit to help them achieve their objectives.
We shared unforgettable moments together but…
During his tenure at AmaZulu, Martin managed 12 wins, as many draws and 15 losses after joining from the Tanzanian heavyweights Simba SC. The -year-old is grateful for the chance given at the club.
“After nearly a year and a half of intense work, dedication, and enjoyment in the day-to-day process of leading AmaZulu FC, I would first like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the club and the Zungu family for their trust and support,” he said in a statement.
“A special thanks to the staff for their professionalism and commitment, to the players for their effort and affection, to all the club’s employees for their invaluable work every day.
“And to the fans, because your support, wherever we traveled, has meant the world. We have shared unforgettable moments, and I am proud to have contributed to the club’s growth and leave a legacy in such a unique region and wonderful country.”
Former Manchester United strikers' coach Benni McCarthy is among the coaches shortlisted for the vacant job.
PSL holds a special place in Martin's heart
The South African top-flight league is one of the best in Africa, and the tactician is happy to have gotten a chance to work there.
“The Premier Soccer League will always hold a special place in my heart. It is now time to embrace new challenges and embark on new adventures,” Martin continued.
“From now on, there will always be another member of the Usuthu family wherever I am.”
