Mayo & Mokwana: Bafana duo advised on North African challenges

Former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Haashim Domingo has advised Khanyisa Mayo and Elias Mokwana to anticipate challenges in North Africa despite terming the move from the Premier Soccer League as massive.

After his exploits at Cape Town City, Mayo – who was also targeted by Kaizer Chiefs, was snapped by Algerian outfit CR Belouizdad who were keen on improving their attacking department.

His Bafana Bafana teammate Elias Mokwana was signed by the Tunisian heavyweights Esperance after his consistencies at Sekhukhune United.

Domingo, who played for Botola Pro League side Raja Casablanca for a year before returning to South Africa with Cape Town City, concedes the duo made a good step to make a move to North Africa. However, he argues language barrier is among the challenges to be faced, but with hard work and determination, they will be successful.

North Africa is a stepping stone for Mayo and Mokwana

“I was there and I learned a lot from the experience. All I can say is that they have take this chance seriously,” Domingo told Far Post.

“Being in North Africa is a big step on its own. It is a stepping stone to get into bigger teams not only in Africa but in Europe. I think, from there, it’s easy to move into Europe, but they have to be resilient and work hard in the process.

“There are obviously challenges that are there. The language barrier is one of the common challenges, but eventually, they must sail through. I always talk to Mayo, telling him to keep pushing and know that being in North Africa means he is exceptional,” Mayo added.

“This is a stepping stone that must be used in real-time. And I am happy for them that they have a good opportunity at hand.”
