Mayo unperturbed by Ighodaro’s availability for Chiefs – ‘Competition is everywhere’

Kaizer Chiefs have, seemingly, resorted to Khanyisa Mayo as their current main striker, with the likes of Flavio Silva, Wandile Duba and Ashley du Preez down in the pecking order.

The CR Belouizdad player who is on loan at the Glamour Boys, has a goal in the two Premier Soccer League matches played.

On Wednesday, October 22, the 27-year-old hopes to get his chance again when Chiefs welcome Siwelele at the FNB Stadium.

However, apart from Silva, Duba and Du Preez, the former Cape Town City striker has another competition in Etiosa Ighodaro.

Ighodaro available? No problem – Mayo

Mayo has welcomed the competition from the former Mamelodi Sundowns man, insisting it is highly welcome since it pushes everyone to give the best. Ighodaro has not yet made his Amakhosi debut after suffering an injury just a couple of days after completing his move to Naturena.

“Competition is everywhere; the competition we have in the team is a healthy one, we encourage each other each and every day to do better than yesterday,” he told the media ahead of the forthcoming PSL game.

“Each and every day at training we [strikers] stay behind to do extra training as strikers, shooting. We are working on complementing each other because we have to score for the team.”

What is expected from Siwelele?

“I think it’s going to be a tough game against Siwelele. Every team that plays against us wants to prove a point that they are better than players that are playing at Kaizer Chiefs,” the striker continued.

“They [Siwelele] had a rest, and we played in DRC on Saturday, but it’s not about the rest, it’s about us being mentally prepared.”

Mayo further opened up on his stint at the Algerian outfit, “It’s been tough to go and play outside South Africa, familiarising myself with a different culture was hard, but now I am back home, where I feel loved. I am at a place where I’ve always wanted to be as a footballer,”  he concluded.
