Mbuthuma shines as Orlando Pirates walk past Kruger United

Yanela Mbuthuma came from the bench to score a brace, as Orlando Pirates beat Kruger United 4-0 in a Premier Soccer League game played at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday night.

The Soweto giants needed another win to continue building their confidence ahead of a crucial CAF Champions League outing this weekend.

Lungu on target!

It took the visitors just four minutes to score the first goal; Kamogelo Sebelebele was fouled by Mike Mamosha, and the referee took no time to award the defending champions a penalty.

Ghampani Lungu stepped up and did well to find the back of the net to make it 1-0. It was the attacker’s fourth goal in seven Bucs games across all competitions. But he was, unfortunately, subbed just 10 minutes later owing to an injury, paving the way for Oswin Appollis.

Five minutes to the break, Sipho Chaine was beaten by Kruger United, but Sbangani Zulu was there to ensure his team went to the break leading.

Radiopane underlines his worth

The PSL newcomers started the second half on a high note, but it was the Sea Robbers who got their second. Boitmelo Radiopane justified Abdeslam Ouaddou’s decision to pick him ahead of Yanela Mbuthuma with a composed finish in the 54th minute.

Appollis was the brains behind the pass that delivered.

Substitute Mbuthuma, who had two assists last weekend in Buc’s 3-0 win over Sekhukhune United in the second leg of the semi-final, finally found his strike when he tapped in Appolli’ cross.

The striker then cpompleted his brace in the second minute of added time to make it 4-0 for Bucs, with the assist going to Lebone Seema.

Pirates have now opened a three-point gap on top of the table, ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns who are second with 10 points, having played a game less. Kaizer Chiefs come third with eight.

On Sunday, Ouaddou’s men will be away in the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League, where they are scheduled to face La Cure Waves.
