Mduduzi Mdantsane opens up on why he ditched Kaizer Chiefs

Mduduzi Mdantsane has revealed why he opted to leave Kaizer Chiefs last month to join Richards Bay despite only signing for the Glamour Boys in 2023.

Mdantsane ended his stay with Chiefs by mutual consent in January to link up with the Natal Rich Boyz, where he has so far featured in three matches, and he says the need to play regularly is what influenced his decision despite his love for the Soweto giants.

The midfielder had undergone surgery on his jaw, following a car accident, but even after his recovery, coach Nasreddine Nabi did not use him for the first half of this season, forcing him to consider his options.

“Well, it was a mutual agreement between the team and me,” Mdantsane told FARPost.

“I felt I needed some time to play and getting an opportunity to work with Richards Bay as they have a lot of young talents in the team and how they play football.

I believed it would suit my style of football and also enjoy myself on the field. So, I feel blessed and grateful to work with the team.”

Mdantsane joined Chiefs from Cape Town City with great promise but did not live up to expectations with injuries and poor form conspiring to hamper his stay.

He is, however, looking at his Chiefs stay with the glass half-full and hopes to make his short stay at Richards Bay a success as his new club, who are second from the bottom in the PSL fight to avoid relegation.

“My stay at Chiefs hasn’t been that long, but as a player, I always try to enjoy each and every moment to be on the field and environment. So, to sum it all up, it has been great and blessed to be around,” added Mdantsane, who signed for Richards Bay until the end of the season.

Richards Bay survived relegation last season after winning the playoff but are hoping to avoid the same this campaign although their form is not helping, having won just four of their 18 games.
