Miguel Cardoso identifies area for improvement at Sundowns

Newly appointed Mamelodi Sundowns head coach, Miguel Cardoso, believes his side still has a long way to go despite their 1-0 victory over Raja Casablanca in the CAF Champions League.

The Portuguese tactician oversaw his first match in charge on Sunday afternoon at Loftus Versfeld, where Sundowns secured a crucial three points thanks to Iqraam Rayners' second-half goal.

While Sundowns dominated possession and created a few dangerous chances, Cardoso insists that his team can still elevate their performance. He highlighted the need for better game control and more clinical finishing in the final third.

CARDOSO – WHERE SUNDOWNS CAN ELEVATE THEIR GAME

“I believe we are far away from the level we want to achieve, far away,” said Cardoso.

“Mostly, we should be able to control the game with the ball, find the right spaces.

“But the commitment we have will make us arrive quicker. So, that energy can multiply when we win.

“So, it was very important today to multiply that energy, that commitment, I think it’s obvious we believe each other that it is something we have already.

“Now, let’s continue to work. Let’s go for the [next] game, recover, study it and show to everybody.

“The group is big, we have a lot of people and all of them are committed as you saw the players from the bench celebrating. The players that were not on the list, they came inside the pitch and joined everybody and the injured players.

“I feel happy because of that, that is really, really a pleasure to feel here.”
