Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi has outlined the specific roles of his coaching staff, including Steve Komphela, Romain Folz, Wendell Robinson, and Kennedy Mweene.

Mngqithi was tasked with the responsibility to spearhead the Brazilians following the departure of coach Rulani Mokwena ahead of the start of the season.

In a significant move, the club re-appointed Komphela as a senior coach. He had previously been part of the Sundowns coaching staff between 2020 and 2023 before departing for spells at Moroka Swallows and Golden Arrows.

They also roped in Romain Folz who has previously coached Marumo Gallants and AmaZulu FC.

Additionally, Romain Folz was brought on board, having previously managed Marumo Gallants and AmaZulu FC.

Mngqithi emphasised that Komphela plays a crucial role in guiding the team's strategies and formulating their game plans.

KOMPHELA SHAPES GAME PLANS

“They bring a lot of valuable experience to our setup. Coach Steve is hugely experienced and offers a wealth of knowledge that helps guide our strategies,” said Mngqithi.

“His insights have been critical in shaping our game plans.”

Mngqithi disclosed that Folz brings fresh perspectives and innovative ideas, which they incorporate into their training methodologies.

ROMAIN FOLZ’S ‘YOUTHFUL ENERGY'

“Coach Romain brings youthful energy and fresh ideas. With his long history as an analyst, he has developed effective training methodologies that keep our sessions dynamic and engaging.

“His personality aligns perfectly with the culture we are building here, fostering collaborative environment.”

WHAT DO GOALKEEPER COACHES WENDELL AND MWEENE DO?

Regarding Coach Wendell, Mngqithi and Mweene, “I have worked with Coach Wendell for a long time; he is a sound goalkeeper coach. He has taken on additional responsibilities in team preparation and set pieces, both offensively and defensively. He has a keen eye for detail and together we complement each other well.”

“We also have Kennedy Mweene, who is not only an exceptional goalkeeper but also has a bright future as a coach. His experience and understanding of the game make him a great asset to our technical team.”
