Mofokeng gives Kaizer Chiefs, Pirates & Downs their flowers after his move

South Africa versatile attacker Relebohile Mofokeng recently left Orlando Pirates for Belgian heavyweights Royale Saint Union Saint-Gilloise.

It was a reward for his consistency after getting promoted to the Bucs’ senior team late in the 2022/23 season. During his last season with the Soweto giants, the 21-year-old played 27 Premier Soccer League matches with a return of 10 goals and eight assists.

His form made Bafana Bafana coach to include him in his 2026 FIFA World Cup squad where the national team, for the first time, advanced from their group but were eliminated in the Round of 32 by Canada.

In his interview with Metro FM, the Transnet School of Excellence graduate explained why he believes the South African top-tier is among the best before lauding the role played by Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, and Pirates.

“I never forget where I come from. I think we play in one of the best leagues. Obviously, we could compete on the world stage, which would mean playing against some of the best players in the world,” he stated as quoted by KickOff.

“We have Sundowns, we have Pirates, we have Chiefs – those are the three best teams, and they can compete everywhere in the world.

“So I think we are doing very well for our country, and we will keep doing well because the development structures in South Africa are growing every year. We are going to be something else in a few years’ time,” Mofokeng added.
