Bafana Bafana winger Mohau Nkota signed for Saudi club Al-Ettifaq before the start of this season but he is already attracting interest from elsewhere.

Nkota joined Al-Ettifaq in a deal worth $3 million (R50 million) from Orlando Pirates and had a bright start to the season, earning him a place in the Bafana Bafana team to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The winger signed a three-year contract with the option for another but according to his agent, he might not last long in Saudi Arabia as there are several inquiries about him.

“Obviously, he is a valuable player, so there will always be interest from across the globe with regard to him,” Nkota’s agent Karabo Mathang-Tshabuse told SportsBoom as per Sunday Tribune.

“There is always interest in him because we are part of a bigger platform, and we also receive interest directly from the clubs that want to pitch for his services.

“The nature of football will always be about progression, whether it’s one or two seasons set up. It’s something we plan with our clients, but for now, we are just monitoring the situation.”

Nkota has made 18 appearances for Al-Ettifaq, scoring two goals while providing three assists, but has had to deal with spells in and out of the team since returning from AFCON.

It is not known where the interest is coming from but he is believed to also have a clause in his contract which would allow him to return to Pirates if need be.

The 21-year-old’s immediate task is to impress at club level and catch the eye of Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos before he names his squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Nkota is a fan-favourite at Al-Ettifaq with the supporters wowed by his quality as well as his positive attitude and bright personality.
