Teboho Mokoena’s agent responds to Saudi transfer links for Sundowns star

Teboho Mokoeana’s agent has commented on the speculation linking his client to Saudi Pro League giants Al Ahli.

Reports in recent days have claimed that Al Ahli have identified Mokoena as a potential replacement for Ivorian Franck Kessie who joined Italian Serie A side Atalanta last week.

Speculation has intensified that Al Ahli are considering a move for the Bafana Bafana midfielder after Ivory Coast captain Kessie departed. The rumored interest adds a compelling layer to the upcoming FIFA Intercontinental Cup, where Al Ahli are scheduled to face Mokoena’s Sundowns in September.

However, Mokoena’s agent, Glyn Binkin, has moved quickly to address the reports, confirming that no official approach has been made to either him or the club.

Mokoena’s agent dismisses Saudi links  

“Despite there being a lot of speculation about this, as happens almost every transfer window, I have not received any contact from the club regarding this matter so far,” Binkin told Egyptian outlet Kora Plus as quoted by KickOff.

Binkin maintains that any interested party must negotiate directly with Sundowns, as Mokoena is under a long-term contract.

“I am certain that Mamelodi Sundowns have not received anything either, otherwise I believe they would have informed me about it,” he continued. “Mokoena still has three years remaining on his contract, so any club interested in signing him would need to contact and negotiate with Mamelodi Sundowns.”

The agent also highlighted that a move abroad has always been part of Mokoena’s career plan and praised his client’s quality.

Sundowns star yearns to play abroad

“When he signed his new contract with Sundowns two years ago, they always knew that at some point he would want to pursue a professional experience outside South Africa,” Binkin stated.

“You could say that he is the best player in his position who is still playing in Africa, and he is also a model professional both on and off the pitch, so he would be a great addition to any club that signs him.”

In a related development concerning the Intercontinental Cup fixture, Saudi publication Al-Eqtisadiah reported that FIFA and Sundowns are expected to cover Al Ahli’s travel and logistical expenses for the match, scheduled for September 19.

FIFA will reportedly handle the cost of flights, while also providing a lump sum for accommodation and living expenses in South Africa.
