Moremi’s Shooting Spree Falls Just Short of Lilepo’s Season Record

Tshepang Moremi delivered one of the most aggressive attacking performances of the Betway Premiership season, unleashing seven shots on goal in Orlando Pirates 2-1 win over Magesi, a tally surpassed only once this campaign.

The only player to register more shots in a single league match is Makabi Lilepo, who fired eight attempts against AmaZulu earlier in the season. Moremi now sits second on that list, underlining just how influential he has become in Pirates’ forward play.

Despite not finding the back of the net, Moremi was a constant menace throughout the match. His movement between the lines, willingness to take on defenders and confidence in pulling the trigger from various angles kept the opposition on the back foot for the full ninety minutes.

His seven-shot haul included three efforts from inside the box, two attempts created through individual dribbles, and two more from clever combinations with teammate Relebohile Mofokeng. While goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze denied him on multiple occasions, Moremi’s persistence reflected the attacking identity Pirates have embraced under their current system.

This level of output also highlights his growing importance and consistency. Moremi has steadily evolved from a wide creator into a dual threat capable of both making and finishing chances, something the club will rely on heavily as they push deeper into the title race.

Lilepo’s eight-shot performance against AmaZulu remains the benchmark for the season, but Moremi’s near-record outing shows that competition for attacking supremacy in the Premiership is heating up. If he continues producing numbers like these, it’s only a matter of time before he tops that chart himself.
