Motaung warns Chiefs against emotional decisions

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr insists that the club is on the right trajectory despite their poor run of form.

Chiefs are going through a turbulent spell that has been compounded by their elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup at the preliminary round on Friday.

Despite winning 1-0 in the second leg, it was only enough to tie the two-legged match 1-1, having lost 1-0 away, and they were kicked out of the continental competition after losing the post-match penalties 3-2.

That added to a run of four games without a win, and just two victories in eight games, putting coach Fernando da Cruz’ position in the spotlight.

Motaung Jr issues caution to Chiefs fans

However, Motaung Jr has backed Da Cruz to turn things around, maintaining that he is making great strides while cautioning against decisions made in the heat of the moment.

“We have made significant progress in key areas of our sporting project, and while setbacks are a natural part of any ambitious journey, they do not alter our conviction in the direction we are taking,” Motaung Jr said via a club statement.

“We remain aligned behind our objectives, our playing identity, and our long-term plan for success both domestically and on the continent.

“Our responsibility is not to be guided solely by the emotion of an adverse result, but rather by careful analysis, stability, and strategic decision-making. We will continue to evaluate performances honestly, learn from this experience, and make the necessary improvements to ensure continued growth and competitiveness.”

“To our supporters, we acknowledge your disappointment and thank you for your steadfast passion and support. The standards at this institution remain as high as ever, and everyone within the football department is fully committed to meeting them,” added the Chiefs boss.

“Now is the time for unity, not division. We believe in the work being done, we believe in the people leading that work, and we believe the foundations being laid today will deliver the success our supporters deserve.

“We move forward together with determination, accountability, and confidence in the future.”

It remains to be seen if Motaung Jr will maintain the same stance if Da Cruz fails to stop the slide amid his diminishing faith among the club’s supporters.
