In a span of a week, Kaizer Chiefs were eliminated from the Nedbank Cup and CAF Confederation Cup.
It was a blow to the players, fans, the management, and all associated with the club, owing to the massive run of form they were enjoying prior to that. A promising season might end without silverware, as the club’s hopes are now on the Premier Soccer League, where they are third favorites behind defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

The fate of the campaign might be in the next two games; on Wednesday, the Glamour Boys host Stellenbosch at the FNB Stadium, before playing Orlando Pirates at the same venue on Saturday, February 28.
According to Chiefs’ former defender Lifa Gqosha, it was a mistake for the Soweto giants to let Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef run the show after the firing of coach Nasreddine Nabi. He argues one could have taken full leadership but not serve as co-coaches.
Where did the Motaungs get it wrong?
“Judging by their performance before, it seemed a good decision based on the results,” Gqosha, told Sowetan.
“I think now the mistake is that there’s no one accountable between the two. So, it becomes a problem because one will blame the other, and both are coming with different philosophies. Whose philosophy is working during the match?

“They should have just given full responsibility to one so he can account for it. If you put two people and say they are co-coaches and you give the two of them accountability, there are situations where they will differ. They are human beings. I think the management should have been bold and made a decision. For me, it was a wrong decision,” he added.
The ex-player is predicting a trophyless campaign, ““I don’t see them taking the league, but we will finish within the top eight bracket, which will be a big improvement from the previous season.
“They cannot now chop and change, looking for a coach. But by now, they should have started with the process of looking for an experienced coach for next season,” he concluded.
