The app opens to the casino section, the default landing page, which features the same dark green background with bright thumbnail contrasts as the website. Promo banners cycle across the top of the display, and category buttons quickly filter slots, roulette, and live games, a combined total of over 1,000 on the platform.

A bottom navigation bar takes you to the promotions page, live games, a quick deposit page (a yellow lightning symbol), sports, and the menu. We found the menu easy to navigate, with clear tiles for games, the Royal Safari VIP program, the Loyalty Store, and account settings.

Clicking the sports button on the Android app opens an in-app browser, while on iOS you get redirected to the mobile site. If you’ve read our Mzansibet review, you’ll know this is because the sportsbook and the casino are separate but connected websites. This setup shows the app is more casino-focused, with sports a secondary consideration.

In-play and selected upcoming matches are visible on the sports landing page, and the navigation buttons for the live betting section and all 32 sports categories are within easy reach at the top.

Clicking the Soccer tab opens the “Tournaments” dropdown rather than the more familiar “Leagues” label found on most betting sites. Here you can browse countries and their competitions, including the SA Premiership and the English Premier League. This is also how other sports categories are organised on the Mzansibet app.

Push Notification

Push notifications are unavailable across all mobile versions of the platform. You have to check account updates manually. This lack of alerts is not uncommon among ZA betting apps, but it’s still a minor inconvenience for punters who prefer to track bets without having to open the app.

Performance

Slots took longer to load than we expected given the app’s casino focus, but the Android version was about 5 seconds faster than the website. The delay in loading didn’t hamper the actual game performance, though, as we were able to spin reels without issue.

The overall iOS performance was alright, though switching menu tabs caused a brief loading delay. Android UI performance felt slightly smoother in our evaluation despite thumbnails taking a moment to load as we scrolled down the lobby.

As for the sportsbook, launching inside the Android in-app browser took only 2 seconds. On iOS, redirecting out to Safari added a slight pause of up to 5 seconds to load the page. Selecting bets, loading betslips, and tracking live matches ran smoothly on both versions once opened.

Minimum Space Required

Android uses 322 KB due to its in-app browser features, while iOS only uses 25 KB. These small file sizes ideal for budget smartphones.

Registering on the Mzansibet App

The mobile app registration process is identical to the mobile site and is split into two pages you can complete in 2 minutes.

How to Place a Bet on the App?

To place bets on the Android app, click on the Sports button at the bottom to launch the in-app browser. On the iOS app, this opens a new Safari tab with the sportsbook.

Once the sportsbook is open, follow these steps:

  2. Tap your preferred odds to pick a match.
  3. Open the betslip at the bottom of your screen.
  4. Enter a stake manually or tap R10, R50, R200, or Max Bet.
  5. Tap Place Bet to confirm your wager.

You can swipe the betslip back down to keep looking for picks. The slip will replace the quick deposit button at the centre of your bottom navigation bar and display the number of selections you’ve made.

Our Favourite Features of the Mzansibet App

As a progressive web application, the app doesn’t offer any unique features from the mobile site. However, three elements stood out for us when using the app.

1. Dedicated Casino Experience

The casino is the app’s main focus, offering immediate access to 1,000+ games from top providers like Habanero, Pragmatic, and Evolution. Games load about 5 seconds faster in the app than on the site, and they run with minimal lag.

Additionally, accessing the lobby from your home screen helps eliminate the browser as a barrier, allowing you to be more active (within reason, please). The more active you are, the more experience points you can earn as part of the Royal Safari Club and the Loyalty Store, both of which give out free spins and other bonuses.

The R21,000 deposit match bonus is another reason the app is ideal, at least for new users who prefer casino. This huge offer is split across your first 5 deposits and comes with up to 300 free spins, and it’s only usable in the casino.

Tapping the yellow lightning icon in the centre or the yellow plus sign in the top right opens “Quick Deposit”, giving you instant access to 15 payment methods. Supported options include Ozow, OTT Voucher, 1Voucher, Apple Pay, and Samsung Pay.

You can activate your welcome bonus here by filling out the bonus code field with the correct code and clicking “Apply”. It doesn’t matter which method you choose, so long as you put down at least R50.

The best part for us was that the paygate window pops up inside the app without redirecting us to the browser. This makes the whole process just as smooth as the mobile site, especially with payments clearing in seconds. The fact that there are two ways to deposit is also great for sports punters, since the yellow button becomes the betslip when odds are selected in the sportsbook.

As mentioned, the bookmaker operates the sporting and gaming sides as separate but connected sites. While we would have preferred to be able to punt on the app itself, the ability to access sports via an in-app browser on Android is a welcome compromise. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get the same thing for iOS.

You can also claim a R50 Sports Extra Bet as part of your sign-up bonus, which is very easy to clear on mobile.

Mzansibet App Compared with Other Betting Apps in South Africa

We reviewed the Betfred app and BetJets on mobile, and the table below compares them against the Mzansibet app across features, sizes, and welcome offers.

Both Betfred and Mzansibet offer Android-only apps, but the Betfred app is the best for hybrid players because its sportsbook and casino are fully integrated, and it includes a data-saving toggle for low-broadband gaming.

However, for players who are exclusive casino gamers, the one-tap casino access from the Mzansibet app provides a more streamlined experience, as you can directly access the lobby and your favourite titles without additional clicks.

BetJets offers live horse racing streams on their mobile site, which the alternatives do not. However, it falls short by lacking a dedicated app or PWA.

On the promotional side, Betfred SA and Mzansibet both dwarf BetJets’ new player offer, with identical deposit matches up to R21,000. Betfred’s match bonus is for sports, while Mzansibet’s is for casino, so the value is dependent on which type of bettor you are.

Should You Get The Mzansibet App?

If you prefer casino play, then you should install the Mzansibet app for fast access without taking up storage space. Hybrid players on Android should consider it as well, since they can access the sportsbook quickly via the in-app browser.

However, sports-only bettors, especially on iOS, should stick to the mobile website, as the app redirects to the external browser anyway.

Advantages

  • Simple download for Android users via the official site
  • Android users access sportsbook through in-app browser feature
  • Direct one-tap casino access with faster loading than on the mobile site
  • In-Play tab lets you customise your experience by choosing the exact sports you want to see.
  • One-click access to 15 payment gateways inside the app with instant processing
  • Small file size under 1 MB

Disadvantages

  • No dedicated app on Google Play or App Store
  • Sports button in-app redirects to Safari on iOS
  • Occasional slow loading when switching tabs or scrolling

Overall, the Mzansibet app is a functional progressive web app that offers more to casino players than sports punters. Casino players will appreciate instant home screen access and the quick deposit tool. While games take a bit long to load, performance is stable, and you can better take advantage of the platform’s rewards.

While the Android app offers sports betting access via an in-app browser, this feels more like an afterthought. iOS users will also be disappointed by the lack of sports integration for their devices. For this reason, we rate the Mzansibet app 3.5 out of 5 stars.
