Steps for Lucky Fish App Download on Android

When we searched for the app on Google Play, it wasn’t available. To download the Android version, you must visit the official Lucky Fish website.

  1. Click on the menu in the top-left corner.
  2. Click “Download APK for Android” at the bottom of your screen to download the APK directly. (Note: Your phone will flag the app as potentially harmful. Don’t be alarmed, you can download it anyway.)
  3. When the download is complete, click “Install”.
  4. If you encounter any additional issues with step 3, ensure that you check your settings to allow the installation of apps from unknown sources.
  5. With the installation complete, you can now “Open” the app.

Steps for Lucky Fish App Download on iOS

You can search for Lucky Fish SA on the App Store, but you won’t find it if your device is incompatible. It is much easier to go through the website and follow these steps:

  1. Click on the menu in the top-left corner.
  2. Click “Download on the App Store” at the bottom of your screen to open the store page.
  3. If your device is compatible, click on the “Get” button and then “Install”
  4. Provide your Apple ID and password.
  5. “Open” the app. (Note: The app will ask if you want to allow it to track your activity on other apps or websites. We recommend that you don’t.)

Steps for Lucky Fish App Download on HarmonyOS

Huawei users can search for the App in AppGallery or go to the Lucky Fish website, as stated above. Once again, do the following:

  1. Click on the menu in the top-left corner.
  2. Click “Download on the AppGallery” at the bottom of your screen to open the store page.
  3. Click on “Install”.
  4. “Open” the app.

App vs Mobile Site

It’s to be expected that we would have different experiences with the app in comparison to the mobile site. We did not expect how wildly different the user experience would be across devices.

User Interface

The moment we opened the Lucky Fish app on any OS, we noticed it looked exactly like the mobile website’s homepage. That’s because it is the website. It has the same user interface, which is solid and easy to understand, if a bit cluttered. And the same pop-ups, including one that tells you to download the app… on… the app…

It feels like corners were cut, and instead of an app, we were given an installable webpage. That is, until we clicked a random button, like “Gaming Hub”, and suddenly the UI resembled the kind of stripped-down simplicity that you expect from an app. This lack of consistency and the confusion it could cause a new user is why we rate the mobile site much higher.

Push Notifications

There are currently no push notifications on the app or the mobile site. You will find a messages tab when logged in to receive the latest promotions. You will not be aware of these updates unless you check the site or open the app, which some users may find disappointing or frustrating, especially if they’ve missed out on something.

Performance

When it comes to Android, this is probably one of the few instances where we found the mobile app to be slower than the website. Even just selecting the odds we wanted to put stakes on seemed to require more processing power than using the website itself.

This is likely to frustrate new punters trying it out and experienced bettors coming from the more celebrated bookmakers like Hollywoodbets. But fear not. HarmonyOS offered a boost in speed, and iOS’ performance was perfect. So, Apple users, congrats on having something else to brag about.

Minimum Space Required

The downloadable file sizes range from 30 to 42 MB, while the space they take up on your Android and Huawei device is over 90 MB. The iOS App takes up approximately 29 mb of space. The website requires no space to use.

Depending on how many apps you have on your phone, this may or may not be an issue for you. But the massive difference in optimisation (and performance, as mentioned) could give the impression of favouritism towards iOS users.

How To Register on the App

If you want to register on the Lucky Fish betting app, the process is identical to the website. Simply click “Join” on the top right and follow the step-by-step registration guide:

Lucky Fish App JOIN
  1. Enter your personal details, including ID/passport, phone number, name, and your physical address.
  2. Indicate your source of income, add your email, and create a password.
  3. Enter the promo code for Lucky Fish, state that you are over 18, accept the T&Cs, and click “Submit”.
  4. Verify your account with FICA and start betting.

Tip: If you clicked on a button that caused the aforementioned UI change, there will not be an option to register directly. Instead, click the menu in the bottom-left corner, then click “Login“. You should see the “Register” option at the bottom right of the pop-up that follows. After that, the process is identical to the website’s.

How To Log in on the App

If you already have an account, then you need to know how to enter your Lucky Fish betting login.

Lucky Fish App Log In
  1. Open the app, and then click the “Log in” button on the top right.
  2. Provide the phone number you used to register and the password you created.
  3. Click “Login”, and you’re in.

This process, like registering, is identical to the website’s. Except, unlike the website, it won’t ask you for an OTP. While this makes logging in quicker, it could pose a security risk if someone got your details.

Our Favourite Features

From exploring the Lucky Fish app, it is clear that it is in its infancy, including the strange UI switching. This bookmaker is a new player in a wide field, so we expect that to change over time as updates roll out. With that said, here are some positives that we identified, many of which mirror the website:

Simpler UI

The UI (as shown earlier) is much cleaner when certain buttons are pushed than the website. Clicking the bottom row of buttons, like “Sport”, gives you options in the form of icons, resembling the app gallery on a phone. The fact that the “Games” sits in the centre and is coloured red, gives us the impression that the casino is where the app’s appeal is meant to lie.

Clicking any casino offering keeps the simple, app-specific UI, but clicking a sports betting option takes you back to the website UI. This either further emphasises our point about the casino being the main appeal or showcases a lack of expertise in displaying live odds in a stripped-down format.

Casino Games Galore

Using your Lucky Fish casino login on the app means getting access to over 1,000 Live, Slot and Crash casino games from popular developers like Habanero and Pragmatic Play. Among these titles are 43 holiday-themed games. Placing an R2 bet on games from Habanero in particular adds you to the Lucky Jackpot Race and gives you a chance to win a share of R1 million cash pool.

Sports Betting Boost

We found this while using the app. When you select multiple matches or games, your bet gets a multiplier boost (ACCA) that increases your potential payout. The current maximum is 10%.

This won’t entice experienced bettors who are used to top bookmakers offering 50 to 100% ACCA boosts, but we highly recommend it for new punters. It’s a great start and prevents you from putting a stake in too many games at once.

There’s currently no Multi Leg Insurance or similar feature as seen with World Sports Betting or Gbets, so if you make the wrong pick on just one game, you lose out entirely. A great way to encourage strategic betting.

Should You Get The App?

We give the app an overall rating of 3/5. And here’s why:

Pros

  • Free and easy to download & install.
  • Offers all the same live odds, features and promotions as the website.
  • Registration process is identical to the website.
  • Fast performance on iOS
  • Decent performance on Harmony

Cons

  • Slower performance on Android
  • Inconsistent User Interface
  • Lacking any app-specific features or promotions.

After reviewing the app, we recommend that you stick to the website for now. We’ll say it again, Lucky Fish’s website is great. It is faster than some of the top bookmakers, and the UI does its job. The app, however, is currently lacking in both identity and consistent art direction, while being slower on certain devices.

Even when speed isn’t the issue, the tracking question posed by the iOS app could pose security concerns for users. Some competitors like Easybet offer a data-free app, which is bound to pull punters, old and new, away.

With time, we expect the app to improve and compete with the big players, but not right now. We don’t think you should go out of your way unless you want easy access to live odds from your favourite leagues and upcoming competitions. And to clear your browser tabs.
