Nabi assesses Chiefs growth – ‘Amakhosi have made improvement but…’

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi insists Amakhosi have made progress despite the inconsistencies in the Premier Soccer League.

After 12 league games, the Glamour Boys have been placed fifth on the Premier Soccer League table with 18 points from five wins, three draws and four losses. They were also knocked out of the Carling Knockout in the quarter-final phase by Mamelodi Sundowns.

Despite the ups and downs, Nabi – who was brought on board to help rebuild Amakhosi after an embarrassing 9th place finish in the PSL last season, insists there is notable improvement at the club.

Chiefs are behind in some areas

The former AS FAR Rabat coach has however admitted there are areas that need to be worked on for the team to get the desired results consistently.

“Regarding the process and where we want to go, after five months we've seen we've made improvement. There's a lot of improvement in some areas and we have been inconsistent in other areas,” Nabi told the media.

“We feel there are some other areas where we are behind where we should be after five months. Everyone is working to fix what needs to be fixed and try to catch up on things we should have done better and we hope we're going to see the improvement and consistency soon.”

On Wednesday, Chiefs came from a goal down to beat Stellenbosch 2-1 and Nabi has lauded his players for the hard work.

“It wasn't easy to come from the goal down to win the game. The quality of play on our side was not at all times consistently good but there were some times when we worked better than our opponents,” he continued.

“The most important thing was the mentality, because even the bodies were tired coming from the travel and game against Cape Town [City, away on Sunday] that left a lot of pains and fatigue.”

And on the fans, “It's a midweek game; it's a late game too, but they showed up in big numbers and were behind the team from the first minutes until the end. The only thing we can promise them is to continue to work hard to have a big team that plays good football and gives them joy.”

Chiefs next game is on Saturday against the Golden Arrows at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
