Nabi defends Morris despite poor SuperSport outing – ‘We can’t evaluate players just on this game’

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has defended his striker Tashreeq Morris who struggled to make an impact against SuperSport United on Tuesday night.

In the Premier Soccer League outing, the 31-year-old registered just one shot on target, failing to inspire Amakhosi to a positive outcome. The Soweto giants eventually fell 4-1 which is their heaviest defeat in the top-tier this season.

It was the first time the Swanky Boys have scored more than one goal this season, and it was their biggest win ever against the Glamour Boys who ended the game with 10 players after Gaston Sirino's red card.

The Tunisian has defended Morris for the lackluster performance as opposed to the previous games he played for the club.

“Today’s game was an exceptional game, and then we cannot unfortunately evaluate players on one game, we have to evaluate players in many games that they play so [Tuesday’s] team was very tired, it’s an exceptional game but like I said we cannot evaluate players just on this [SuperSport] game,” the tactician stated.

“This game should not be used as a reference. In the previous game, Tashreeq gave all his best, he gave a lot of energy, and we could see today it has impacted his physical strength.”

Chiefs have two weeks to prepare for their next meeting which is against Mamelodi Sundowns at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on March 1. It will be the third time this season the two teams are meeting across all competitions.

Masandawana have won the initial meetings and will be aiming at making it three in a row.
