Nabi not gone yet but Chiefs job already attracting interest

Even before the departure of coach Nasreddine Nabi is confirmed by Kaizer Chiefs, his job is already attracting interest from other tacticians.

Chiefs are reportedly set to confirm that Nabi has left the club by mutual agreement after the veteran coach decided to take time off from the dugout to focus on the health of his wife, who is recovering after being involved in an accident.

Nabi will reportedly not be in the dugout when Chiefs take on Angolan side Kabuscorp S.C.P in the CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round on Saturday September 20 with his assistants Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze likely to be in charge.

The 60-year-old has already confirmed to North African media that he is leaving Chiefs and will not make an immediate return to coaching until his wife is in a better condition and that has opened up a door of opportunity for other tacticians at Naturena.

According to Soccer Laduma, French coach Jerome Arpinon is keen on the Chiefs job and has informed his representatives to make an approach to Chiefs over the soon-to-be vacant hot seat.

“Jerome Arpinon is very interested in the Kaizer Chiefs job,” a source told Soccer Laduma over the former Nimes coach’s interest in the Chiefs job.

Who is Jerome Arpinon?

“His representatives are finalising things before officially sending his CV to the club. They believe Amakhosi would be a perfect project for him, and he wants to be considered should there be a change in the technical team.”

Arpinon’s last job was in charge of Belgian club Royal Excelsior Virton, which lasted between November 2023 and December 2024, managing 40 games and winning 19.

The Chiefs job is one of the most prominent not just in South Africa but in Africa and it remains to be seen how the club will handle the matter with other rumours claiming that Ben Youssef and Kaze could be handed the reigns for the rest of the season after their good work when Nabi was absent.
