Nabi on who Chiefs would want to be drawn against in Nedbank Cup semifinal

Published on by

Following Kaizer Chiefs' 3-1 victory over Stellenbosch FC in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinal, coach Nasreddine Nabi has addressed the question of his preferred semifinal opponent.

The Amakhosi's win, secured with goals from Inacio Miguel, Pule Mmodi, and Mfundo Vilakazi, propelled them into the last four. Andre De Jong scored Stellenbosch's lone goal.

The last time Chiefs played Nedbank Cup semi-final was in the 2022/23 season where they lost to Orlando Pirates.

With the Phefeni Glamour Boys hoping for a spot in the final, they will have to sweep away whoever they meet in the next round of the competition.

In post-match comments, Nabi conveyed his satisfaction with the result, emphasizing the challenging nature of the match against the Cape Winelands side.

Nabi emphasized that Kaizer Chiefs will show respect to whichever team they face in the Nedbank Cup semifinal.

He acknowledged that all remaining contenders are strong, having proven their worth through a difficult path to this stage of the competition.

NABI – ‘YOU NEED TO PREPARE SERIOUSLY FOR EVERY TEAM’

“There’s no special preference because when a team gets to the semi-final, you have to be very careful because they have their very own strengths,” said Nabi.

“And you need to prepare seriously for every team. Even Durban City if they have gotten into the quarterfinals, that means they are very strong and we need to respect them.”

Chiefs will find out their next opponents in the Nedbank Cup after the Durban City vs Marumo Gallants clash that will take place on Sunday afternoon.

Orlando Pirates also booked their spot on Saturday after defeating SuperSport United on penalties while Mamelodi Sundowns vs Sekhukhune tie was postponed due to double-booking at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium.
