Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has explained why promising youngster Mfundo Vilakazi is not consistently starting matches despite his impressive performances as a substitute.
The skillful winger has made only one start in 11 appearances across all competitions under Nabi this season.
Despite this limited game time, Vilakazi has already contributed a goal and an assist.
Nabi emphasized the need to protect the 19-year-old's development. He believes that overwhelming Vilakazi with 90 minutes of intense play could hinder his growth.
Instead, Nabi prefers to gradually integrate him into the team and provide opportunities for him to gain valuable experience.
NABI REVEALS WHY VILAKAZI HASN’T BEEN STARTING GAMES
“He’s a talent from the academy of the club. He’s only 19 years old, I would say that his development, even his physical development is not yet 100%,” Nabi stated.
“This means we need to protect the player, we need to give him time that he’s going to showcase himself.
“We believe that he doesn’t yet have the consistency of playing successive 90 minutes games without time to recover.
“We feel that those minutes that he’s getting are going to give him the confidence, the momentum, and the physical status as well.”
