Nabi warns: Sundowns will see different Chiefs – ‘In previous game, Amakhosi were tired’

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has promised to help the Glamour Boys to silence Mamelodi Sundowns this weekend.

The defending Premier Soccer League champions host the Glamour Boys on Saturday at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium. This will be the third time the two teams are meeting across all competitions.

The initial meeting was in the league and the Brazilians won 2-1 before another 4-0 victory in the Carling Knockout. The last time the Soweto giants beat Masandawana was way back in April 2021. Since then, Amakhosi have lost eight and drawn two of the most recent meetings across all competitions.

Speaking ahead of the game, Nabi insists Sundowns will see a different team this weekend as opposed to the one that lost the last two encounters.

“I fancy our chances against this team who's maybe in the top two in Africa. I love this challenge. I don't go like a small team, I trust my players, my staff, and myself. We've prepared some ideas [to beat Sundowns],” Nabi said as quoted by Sowetan.

“I want a good result. I promise you this game won't be like our previous two games against Sundowns; it'll be a very different game.

“I think the first game, honestly, was a 0-0 game, you remember that game [that ended 2-1]. The second game [that they lost 4-0], we had played two days earlier in Bloemfontein or Polokwane and the team came very, very tired in Johannesburg and it was an off day physically, mentally, and tactically,” Nabi concluded.

While Sundowns are chasing their eighth consecutive PSL crown, Chiefs hope to push for the Caf competitions slot.
