Siyanda Ndlovu reveals why he rejected Pirates for Sundowns

New Mamelodi Sundowns’ new signing Siyanda Ndlovu has cited the club’s ambition to win trophies as a primary factor in his high-profile transfer to Chloorkop.

The 22-year-old attacker finalised his move to the two-time African champions during the current transfer window after a standout season with Golden Arrows.

Ndlovu is reported to have agreed a deal with PSL champions Orlando Pirates and even linked up with the club but had a change of heart in the last minute and swiftly abandoned the Soweto giants for the Brazilians.

Ndlovu on decision to choose Sundowns

A product of the Arrows youth academy, Ndlovu impressed last season by scoring four goals and providing six assists in 25 appearances for Abafana Bes’thende.

During an appearance on Sundowns’ The Pitchside Podcast with DJ Naves, Ndlovu, nicknamed ‘Skhwishi’, shared his excitement about the prospect of competing for silverware and assured the Sundowns faithful of his commitment.

“Mamelodi Sundowns competes for a lot of trophies,” Ndlovu stated. “It’s a very competitive side, even in the league. So, as a player, I had a wish that if I get to Sundowns, I’ll compete for these cups and grow in my game.”

He also delivered a direct message to the supporters, promising to give his all for the club.

“My message to the fans is that I’ll do my best to fight for the team, to fight for the badge,” he added.

“I want to contribute to strengthening this team and work hard so I don’t just make up the numbers. I have to work hard and add value like the other guys.”

Ndlovu faces a big battle to win over Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso who has players like fellow new signing Antonio Van Wyk, Kutlwano Lethlaku and Thapelo Morena all who can play on his favourite right wing.
